Issues on the Silk Road Economic Belt at SHUPL

On April 23, 2013, a session of the International Academic Seminar on Building of "Silk Road Economic Belt" and "Silk Road Peace Award" was held at Shanghai University of Political Science and Law. A day before, the academic seminar was held in Beijing. During the session, seven Euro-Asian officials, scholars, experts and scholars from the university had thorough discussions on issues around the topic: “the Constructionand the Revitalization of the Silk Road.”

Prof. Wang Wei, Assistant Principal and Director of the International Exchange Office, delivered the opening speech, and welcomed the Euro-Asian visitors. The session was jointly hosted by the Public Diplomacy Institute and the School of International Affairs and Public Administration, and chaired by the Director of Academic Affairs Office, Prof. Chen Jianfeng.

During the session that lasted over two hours, officials and scholars from Belgium, Italy, Kyrgyzstan, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, and Turkey presented their views and opinions around issues related to the Silk Road Economic Belt. The experts including Prof. YuanShengyu and Associate Prof. Wang Weimin from the School of International Affairs and Public Administration, Prof. Sheng Hongsheng from the Department ofInternational Law and Business, and Associate Prof. Chen Xiao from the International Exchange Office also offered their own opinions. Furthermore,they had intensive discussions with the foreign scholars on relevant issues.

The participants agreed that the building of the SilkRoad economic belt should be promoted in the spirit of mutual respect and trustin politics, equal cooperation, mutual benefits, and win-win results in economy,and mutual tolerance and learning in culture.
