The CISCO involved in hosting the Academic Seminar on the Building of the Silk Road Economic Belt

On May 25, 2014, the Academic Seminar on the Building of the Silk Road Economic Belt was held at SHUPL. The seminar was jointly held by SHUPL, the Shanghai Institute for International Studies, and the CISCO, and organized by the School of International Affairs and Public Administration of SHUPL.


Over 40 representatives, experts, and scholars from the Department of Eastern European and Central Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Development Research Center of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, Shanghai Institute for International Studies, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Fudan University, Tongji University, East China Normal University, Shanghai International Studies University, Shanghai University, Shanghai Normal University, East China University of Political Science and Law, Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, and SHUPL attended the seminar. The opening ceremony of the seminar was chaired by Prof. Wang Wei, assistant principal of SHUPL.


At the seminar, the participants spoke highly on the strategic significance of the Silk Road Economic Belt. Furthermore, they had thorough discussions on the topics including Effects of the Construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt on the World Economic and Peace Development, Geo-economic and Cultural Environment of the Construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt, the Building of the Silk Road Economic Belt and Security Cooperation, and Shanghai and the Construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the Yangtze Economic Zone. The representatives not only presented macroscopic reflections and strategic ideas on the building of the Silk Road Economic Belt, but also discussed in depth the role of Shanghai in the overall strategy. The entire seminar was full of contests of diverse thoughts and proceeded in a intense atmosphere.

In the end, Prof. Yang Jiemian, director of the Academic Committee at Shanghai Institute for International Studies and president at Shanghai Society for International Relations, delivered a speech at the closing ceremony. He encouraged the scholars to offer intellectual support for the national strategic layout in the New Era.
