The 12th International Conference on Central Asia & SCO was successfully held at SHUPL

      The 12th International Conference on Central Asia & Shanghai Cooperation Organization was successfully held from September 18th to September 20th , 2015 at SHUPL. It was co-sponsored by Shanghai University of Political Science and Law (China National Institute for SCO International Exchange and Judicial Cooperation) (herein after SHUPL (CNISCO)), Shanghai International Culture Association and Center of Shanghai Cooperation Organization Studies of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences.
      Pan Guang, the CNISCO chief expert and the director of Center of SCO Studies of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, presided over the opening ceremony. SHUPL president Zhou Zhongfei, SHUPL vice president Pan Mutian, general secretary of Shanghai International Culture Association Deng Xiaoxian delivered welcoming speeches respectively. Gao Yusheng, SCO former deputy secretary General and vice director of China Foundation for International Studies, addressed an opening keynote. SHUPL vice president Guan Baoying delivered the closing speech.
      Before the opening ceremony of the conference, SHUPL president Zhou Zhongfei held talks with Zhansaya Kumarbekova, the director of the Department for Asia, Oceania and the CIS countries of the International Center of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Both sides carried on the discussion and consultation on the cooperation between SHUPL and the education system of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
      Experts and scholars attending the conference were from universities, research institutes and think tanks as follows: Lomonosov Moscow State University, “Motherland Party” Institute of Society and Politics, Institute for National Strategy of the Kyrgyz Republic, President Strategy and Regional Studies of the Republic of Uzbekistan, University of Oxford of the UK, the Jamestown Foundation of Washington in the United States, China Foundation for International Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, China Institute of International Studies, China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, Development Research Center of the State Council, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, Fudan University, Lanzhou University, East China Normal University, Shanghai International Studies University. Some officials from Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and foreign institutions of Russia, Central Asia countries in Shanghai were invited to attend the conference. Some relevant academic experts and scholars of SHUPL such as Wang Wei, Chen Jianfeng, Yuan Shengyu, Wang Weimin, Sheng Hongsheng, Chen Xiao, Fan Mingchao attended, chaired or appraised at the conference.
      During the Conference, the participating experts and scholars heatedly discussed topics of “Security challenges that Central Asia and SCO confront with”, “Significance of ‘One Belt One Road’ and Its Impact on Central Asia and SCO”, “Civilization Dialogs and Humanities Cooperation of Central Asia and SCO”  in-depth.
      The International Conference on Central Asia & Shanghai Cooperation Organization is held every two years and has become a platform with widespread influence for domestic and overseas discussion of Central Asia and SCO issues. It was the first time for SHUPL to attend and hold the Conference.
