International Academic Seminar on“Silk Road Economic Belt”and “Silk Road Peace Award”

On April 22, 2014, the International Academic Seminar on Building of "Silk Road Economic Belt" and "Silk Road Peace Award" was jointly hosted by Shanghai University of Political Science and Law, the Silk Road Peace Award Committee, and Beijing Peace Tour Cultural Exchange Center in Beijing. Well-known thinktank experts, scholars, former politicians, and envoys from more than 20 countries (including Netherlands, France, Germany, Spain,Italy, Greece, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, Russia,etc.), and domestic outstanding experts and scholars and top government officials attended the seminar.

The leaders of Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs,International Department of the Central Committee of CPC, Development Research Center of the State Council, and the Ministry of Culture attended the seminar and delivered speeches.

 

Prof. Jin Guohua, President of Shanghai University of Political Science and Law, hosted the opening ceremony and seminar in the morning of the 22nd. Prof. Wang Wei, Assistant Principal and Director of the International Exchange Office, and Prof. Yuan Shengyu, Head of the School of International Affairs and Public Administration of the university gave talks as expert representatives. Ms. Feng Xiuqin, another Assistant Principal, and Ms. Wang Ying, Assistant Director of the Office of the President and Party Committee, also attended the seminar.

At the seminar, the participants spoke highly on the Chinese proposal on building the Silk Road economic belt. They expressed their willingness in supporting the promising project, and believed that it will be beneficial for all the nations along the economic belt, and to the promotion of global economic development and world peace.

The participants agreed that the building of the Silk Road economic belt should be promoted in the spirit of mutual respect and trustin politics, equal cooperation, mutual benefits, and win-win results in economy,and mutual tolerance and learning in culture. They also proposed specific suggestionsto foster the economic belt. For example, laws and regulations on customs dutiesand other relevant areas need further adjustments; regional financial institutions should identify several core infrastructure projects along the economic belt.

At the seminar, the Silk Road Peace Award received unanimous support. The participants commented that the award demonstrates the concept of peaceful development and the notions of justice, equal treatment, and mutual tolerance adherently pursued by China; it not only inherits the Chinese peace-loving tradition, but also benefits the development of the spirit of the Silk Road and the promotion of the construction of the economic belt.

At the end of the seminar, a consensus was achieved concerning building the Silk Road economic belt and establishing the Silk Road Peace Award on the basis of careful discussion among the experts and scholars.

During the seminar, Prof. Jin was appointed as one of the experts in the Silk Road Peace Award committee by the President of China Association for Public Diplomacy and former Foreign Affairs. Prof. Jin was involved in the discussion on and the formulation of regulations and work system in respect to the peace award.
